Maverick Viñales 25 (Movistar Yamaha) is frustrated by a lack of rear grip in the second half of the race at the Redbull Ring – Austria 2017, and he can’t better than ending in 6th position.
Maverick Viñales said: “I tried to ride the bike in the best way….I expected to fight for the win, but we were unlucky, with the rear tire. I was sliding a lot. I think it’s a problem with our bike, not with the tires, Zarco’s bike was accelerating a lot.”
“In the beginning of the season, I was braking really hard and opening the bike very aggressive, but now, I have to be very smooth in all the areas, to make the lap time.”
“We are trying to improve this problem on the rear but we can’t, especially with hard tires and when the track is hotter it’s impossible. We’re going to try and make another step after a test at Misano before Silverstone. If we don’t change something big, it’s going to be impossible.”
“I’m a hard breaker and go deep into the corners, always, from my time. But now, I have to adapt to the bike. I have to make the bike work. If you need to change the style, you have to change it, But the problem is that we don’t have the rear grip. The tires drop so much and so quickly.”
With these hard tires, it’s impossible to make the bike work. We just need to find the way. Maybe to go on the soft side and to try and make the soft work for all the race.”
“ I was riding behind Pedrosa and the acceleration of the Honda was quite amazing. But the acceleration was something amazing riding behind him. Maybe they improve and we stay. That can be possible. We have to hurry up and work.”
